INDIAN CRICKET TEAM FOR ICC WORLD CUP 2011 AND MY DREAM TEAM

The names of 15 probables to represent Indian Squad for the WORLD CUP have been announced.
The team comprises of 7 batsmen ( Tendulkar, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Raina, Sehwag and Dhoni ), 4pacers (Zaheer, Nehra, Munaf and Parveen ), 1 all rounder ( Yusuf ) and 3 spinners ( Harbhajan,Chawla and Ashwin ).
To win any tournament , a team should be well balanced, all players must be fully fit and contribute their worth in every game. Most of the selected players as of now are not fit, injury prone and not in form.
Dhoni, Yuvraj and Raina are out of form. Why has Yuvraj (once a match winner) been picked up when he has constantly failed with the bat for almost a year?
On slow sub continent pitches, Nehra, Munaf will be hammered badly. Both are no good with the bat as well. Piyush Chawla, a surprise entry, was thrashed in last one dayer against S Africa. Dhoni himself has failed miserably as a captain and as a batsman. Surprisingly, media never writes about his poor captaincy.
If i were to pick my 15 players, i would replace Yuvraj with Rohit Sharma (a solid bat and a useful bowler ) , Munaf with Sreesanth (has sting in bowling and can bat well ), Ashwin with P.Ojha (better bowler and chips in runs when needed ), Piyush Chawla with Dravid (checks landslide in batting, can keep wickets and is the best slips fielder in country ) and Nehra with Umesh Yadav ( an all rounder in true sense ) .
Had Irfan Pathan and Ishant Sharma been fit, i would have picked them up in place of Umeash Yadav and Sreesanth.
My dream team comprises of all rounders who are dependable and have always delivered in crisis ( check their past records please ).
The form of a player remains for just one or two months. Therefore, i do not expect KOHLI and YUSUF PATHAN to plunder runs any more.
There will be surprises and we must wait for them. Each of my 15 players has the ability to play well in pressure conditions. Thus, my pick will be for 8 batsmen, 3 all rounders (Yusuf,Umesh and Praveen Kumar), 2 Spinners ( Harbhajan and Ojha ) and 2 pacers in Zaheer and Sreesanth.
I feel our selectors have not been fair and have done a miserable job in selecting an average team based on their past records and not evaluating real ground performances. I have my doubts if the selected team can reach even the semi finals.

BE PREPARED FOR SURPRISES AND UPSETS IN THIS WORLD CUP.

SELECTORS, PLEASE GIVE ME MY TEAM AND WE WILL BRING YOU THE WORLD CUP .

INDIAN CRICKET TEAM FOR ICC WORLD CUP 2011

ICC World Cup 2011 starts on 19 Feb. 14 teams will play a total of 49 matches (including semi finals and finals ) in 43 days in India, Sri lanka and Bangladesh.

Have the selectors made the correct selection of 15 member Indian contingent? Well, going by the current form of players, the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches, abundance of talent available in the country and the lessons drawn from previous World Cup Matches, I would have picked up a different team.

Rather than going in for specialists (except fast bowlers), it is rather advisable to select all rounders because the chances of the tail enders collapsing are eliminated if all 11 players are good batsmen. Even in the recently concluded ODI series against S. Africa, as many as eight bowlers were used in almost every match. This included regular batsmen also bowling quite a few overs.

In an attempt to score runs, batsmen will make mistakes and any bowler who bowls reasonably well will be rewarded. A top class fast bowler who cannot contribute regularly with the bat would not be the best choice. That is where ALL ROUNDERS will chip in.

That raises a question. Who all should have been included in the 15 member Indian squad? Keep thinking and await my next post.

IPL 2011: SELECTION OF CAPTAIN

Come April and we shall witness some blazing cricket. The euphoria of ICC World Cup would have been over in March and the stage set for the biggest 20 overs extravaganza. TEN teams will rub shoulders with each other over seventy four matches to win the championship.

Most of the players in any team would be from India. Therefore, one wonders whether the captain also should be an Indian player or someone from another country.

The T20 format matches are fast and compel players to play improvised shots in a bid to score quick runs. Players take some time, as the tournament progresses, to understand each other’s game, habits and capabilities to combine and perform well as a team.

There are no hard and fast rules for selecting a captain. A player (preferably with international experience as a captain) with personal achievements and records in T20 matches would be a good choice. In case a few ex captains are in a team, then, country does not matter and the player with repute and better leadership and motivational qualities should be an obvious choice as a captain.

Veterans should also be considered for captaincy as they have tremendous experience which would come handy in dressing room talks and in stressful situations in the field.

Selecting an in form player purely on the basis of his run scoring abilities would be a great folly because a captain has much more to do than just score runs.

What are your views and suggestions on this issue of captaincy please?

SHOCKING DISPLAY BY INDIA IN 5TH ODI AGAINST S.AFRICA

Going by the erratic performance by India in previous ODI's, the defeat was inevitable. But the manner in which it came was shocking and shamefull.

It appeared as if YUSUF PATHAN alone was staging a losing battle. Why can't our batsmen just stay at the crease and apply themselves well while sticking to the basics. They displayed lack of aptitude, technique and will to win.Name any batsman who batted well. All played GALLI cricket shots.

Mr DHONI must accept the flake for such a dismal show. Did he ever play a captain's knock in any of the one dayers? Media must rip him apart for POOR captaincy. And selectors must warn him and seek his explanation for such a poor show which has let down a great cricketing nation. BUT,THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Our media and selectors are afraid of this cricket icon.

S.Africa played like champions and rightly deserved to win. Weldone S Africa.

Warning bells must be heard by selectors loud and clear. THIS team can not win the World Cup starting next month...... What is the solution?

Please await my posts to follow.

INDIA Vs S.AFRICA-5TH ODI

Rain disrupted S.African piling up a huge total. Revised target for India is 268 in 46 overs.Moisture in air will help S.African bowlersbut wet outfield will be a challange to fileders.

Indians need to apply themselves well from first over itself to maintain momentum and amass runs.

Anything scored less than 70 in first 10 overs will be suicidal for India.

The TRUTH...Indian batting line up is good on paper.......Today is the day to prove this wrong.

Wait and watch.

INDIA Vs S.AFRICA:5TH ODI

So far,it has been a lacklustre performance by India. Body language, agility and fielding look timid. Yuvi ,who should have been sitting in stands has suddenly turned a bowler. Is he proving his abilities now as a bowler? Too late.

Zaheer, Harbhajan and Nehra look fatigued and bowling with no fire. Piyush is a passenger as ever.Well, the fight from Indians is on. The last 10 overs await heavy slogging.

S. Africans are consolidating merrily. At this rate reaching 350 may also be possible. That would mean a tough chase by India.

Dhoni seems unperturbed ( trying to remain cool ).He should be more active and talk to players more often or the match will slip away from him.

Hope for the best AND AWAIT SLOGGING SESSION NOW.

Good luck TEAM INDIA

INDIA Vs S.AFRICA:5TH ODI

The match is on. South Africa crusing steadily.Indians trying to apply pressure but without getting results... Biggest blunder..PITUSH CHAWLA included in Indian squad. He is a pathetic bowler (very expensive ) and a poor batsman. Why did Dhoni opt for him?..Media to ask him...Nehra looks tired .Overall bowling is just normal. Dhoni definitely needs some help..

Indians not good in chasing huge scores. The way thIngs are, S.Africa will reach a total of 320. Well, it's going to be an uphill task for India. Watch out for Amla who has yet to show his true form.

Wait and watch

The truth about Indian weaknesses and poor selection will be seen by all soon.

GOOD LUCK TEAM INDIA

CAN INDIA WIN ONE DAY SERIES IN SOUTH AFRICA

All eyes are set on the crucial match on 23 Jan to decide winner of 5 match series. With the series tied at 2-2, both the teams will fight hard to emerge winners. This will be a good contest before the World Cup starting next month.

Much hyped Indian team will strive to create history ( winning one day series after 19 yrs). But, that would not be easy. South Africans will come out highly motivated before cheering home crowd,to salvage pride and clinch the series.

Going purely by the current form of both the teams, i would favour the South Africans to win. Indians are vulnerable against bounce, lack consistency, have few in form players,. lack the sting in bowling department and have no "trump card " player who could turn the tables at any stage in the game. More than that, they appear to be a tired lot after long drawn out series.

On the contrary, their counterparts have shown steady improvement during series in all departments of the game and are well set as a cohessive unit. Their bowling is piercing and their tail enders can plunder runs in slog overs. Both these aspects are an asset to any team.

Just wait and watch.... the truth will be seen by all.

IPL-2011:DO WE NEED YOUNG CAPTAINS OR EXPERIENCED ONES

Indian Premier League starting 08 Apr 11 will put to test the mettle and guile of all captains. The team whose captain best utilizes his players' abilities and leads them well would win the tournament.

One question comes to my mind. Will the younnger players selected as captains deliver better results than the aged and experienced players? T20 is a different ball game than 50 overs ODI's. No doubt that Younger players are more energetic, apply themselves agressively and lead by example. But, if i was a coach, i would go in for an aged experienced captain for some of the reasons given below:
1. Experience makes them cool thinkers (better strategists).
2. Can read pitches better (plan bowling changes).
3. Not likely to succumb under presure.
4. Influence younger players by their reputation.
5. Better in handling international players.

One should always remember that in T20 format , many surprises await us. At times, teams with brilliant captains lose badly and on many occassions, inexperienced and raw players perform well and guide their teams to victory.

Is there a yard stick by which the most suitable captain can be selected? Well, there is none.
At the end of the day, the results will prove whether the selection of the captain was right or wrong.

Should the captian be an indian player or from some other country?....Good question...Please wait for my next post.

IPL WORLD CUP 2011

Hi folks. Good news for cricket fans all over the world....Indian Premier League (IPL) for Cricket starts on 19 Feb 2011.A lot of excitement and action in the form of blazing performances from well known and lesser known cricketers from 12 nations await all of us.

I shall be up dating you all with my views from time to time.

The auctions earlier this month saw old experienced stalwarts like Bett Lee, Brian Lara and Ganguly being dumped and young, upcoming players like Duminy,Angello Mathews and Botha fetching huge amounts. Surprisingly, Indian discards (like Piyush Chawla and Badrinath) who couldn’t find a berth in Indian squad drew large amounts as well. Only time will tell who delivers how much.

One must remember that in 20 overs format, a player’s energy during fielding, motivation, correct timing of the ball and fitness level on that particular day are few of the factors which play a dominant role affecting his performance.

Let us see who sparkles with the bat and ball. I feel majority of the foreign younger players will perform better than their Indian counter parts.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL?

INDIAN CRICKET TEAM IN SOUTH AFRICA

By god’ grace and some gritty onslaught by Yusuf Pathan and Rohit Sharma, India won the third one dayer and now lead the series 2-1. Luck did not favour South Africans who floored easy chances and failed to catch miscued shots by Indian batsman.

Dhoni failed again, batting in real DHOBI style. Isn’t there a vice captain in the team? Why can’t the captain be replaced if he fails to deliver consistently....hmmmmm...Selectors please wake up and MEDIA, please note and start writing on this grave issue. Why should we wait for the day when Dhoni, the skipper will deliver the goods, especially with the IPL WORLD CUP just round the corner.

I wish the Indian team GOOD LUCK for the remaining matches but the players need to pull up their socks to face bouncers and real pace in the ensuing matches because the opponents will come out with real fury to level the series first and then clinch the same later. let’s wait and watch

THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM: BUNDLE OF NERVES

The display by the Indian cricket team under Dhoni, currently touring South Africa has always been unpredictable and inconsistent.

Playing on bouncy wickets has been our weakness since ages and that was again showcased in the current one day series. The first one dayer saw the Indians guarding off the missiles sent by South African pacers with utmost discomfort and lack of proper technique. The most experienced batsmen also failed and the result was a shameful defeat. The captain failed too.

Then came the second one dayer. The batting improved slightly but runs couldn’t be scored. Thanks to some good bowling and poor South African batting and some complacency that India managed to Win the match by one run.

Some questions come to my mind based on these two games. They are:

1. Indians are still uncomfortable while playing bounce.
2. Tendency to nibble at outgoing deliveries exists.
3. Players not delivering continue in the team..Yuvraj?
4. Dhoni’s captaincy is questionable. His bowling changes not very calculative and timely.
5. It.s time to select a new One day Cricket captain.(Raina or Virat).
6. Players should be well built and tall. ( selectors to note for future).

The selectors must be fair in selecting real good players without going by past performance and reputation. And above all,the media must refrain from giving too much publicity when the team wins. That really makes players complacent.

Can India win one day series against South Africa. I have my doubts. Whatever the result, a lot of lessons will be drawn from the series. GOOD LUCK TEAM INDIA

DHONI: THE LUCKY CAPTAIN

Lately, Dhoni ,the Indian cricket skipper has constantly failed to deliver either as a keeper or as a batsman.

Had he been aggressive, probably, the third and final test match against South Africa could have been won by India.

A defensive approach and pre set mind to draw the match and level series (never achieved by India), was his aim from day one. But to create history and prove the might of number one test team in the world, he should have gone for the kill or at least tried to be offensive at some stage in the game to put pressure on the opponents.

A good balanced team (as we claim India to be), can score 275 runs in a day. Scoring 340 should have been at least, attempted. If, later, 340 appeared un gettable, they could have played out for a draw. That was not done and a tame draw was imminent. A perfect example of poor captaincy.

Nobody ever comments on Dhoni’s captaincy and certain decisions. Are we not biased? He seems to be sailing high just because of some good players under him. Media must learn to call a spade a spade...

BIG BOSS 4: SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

In my last blog, i had requested you all to think and suggest ways to further improve the show in order to bring in more transparency and exhibition of personal qualities by each housemate. Kindly feel free to send in your suggestions to me at kukikol@gmail.com
Some useful suggestions came to my mind and are appended below:
1 .An experts panel (eminent personalities) to decide excerpts to be screened for viewing by audience. (Thus, no need to screen censored proceedings of the happenings in the house at a later time).
2. Elimination be based on experts panel’s views and public voting (each carrying 50% weightage)
3. Contestants should be of good repute, successful in life, of varying age groups and professions and satisfied in life (no dubious characters).
4. Central tasks/group events in house be organised in order to bring out real good qualities of housemates rather than just entertainment by dancing and singing.
5. Permit clean respectful friendship in opposite sexes devoid of seductive gestures and comments.
So folks, would you like to watch the next telecast of BIG BOSS with the above changes? OH, you have some more changes...yes...sure......good...chip in please... am waiting.
HOW ABOUT BIG BOSS AT WORLD LEVEL... CALLED WORLD BOSS....very much possible...just waiting for it. Think about it..advantages ..cultural and international.

BIG BOSS 4: NEED TO CHANGE FORMAT?

We all watch BIG BOSS and enjoy thoroughly. But, are we drawing any lessons from it to imbibe in our lives? We have so far seen in all the four shows that most of the house mates never try to portray their real characters while dealing with each other. Their behaviour is focussed around diplomacy, connivance with others, back biting, bitching and making groups purely with the aim of beating out others to win prize money. Well....Does this ever happen in a house/ family? CERTAINLY NOT... That raises the question, WHAT’S THE AIM OF THIS SHOW? If it is to gauge how an individual adapts and behaves among unknown people living under one roof for fourteen weeks, then the aim is defeated because That raises the question WHAT’S THE AIM OF THIS SHOW of the reasons listed above.
We all know that in a family anywhere in the world, all members behave naturally, portray actual characters with perfect bonding without any cribs and help out others without selfish motives and try to earn each other’s respect because of their mature, rational and logical actions....But, in this BIG BOSS HOUSE, one sees all wrong practices being followed which cast a bad impression on young as well as older audiences. At the end of the show, one learns nothing.
Therefore, do we need to amend /modify the format so that audience assesses housemates in a more transparent manner and only deserving candidates go ahead every week. So folks, scratch your brains and let me know you views please. I have few suggestions for the organisers which i shall pen down in my subsequent blog. Just wait for it. Till then keep on smiling and chill out........

DHONI's BLUNDER IN FINAL CRICKET TEST

By the time many read my blog, the final cricket test match would be over. Draw is more likely. But, India is on the back foot now ; courtesy poor captaincy by Dhoni.

When his main bowlers were ineffective in post lunch session on fourth day, he should have tried his unorthodox and irregular bowlers to dislodge Kallis and company.

He failed to do so and the result is emerging clear.... SA amassing a challenging total for India to chase.May be, a draw can be enforced...that time will tell.

Dhoni’s captaincy i have always doubted. The team is performing well because he has exceptionally good batsmen in his armoury.

A stitch in time saves nine...here few decisions could have saved India the match.

BIG BOSS 4: BIG FLOP

BIG BOSS 4 has entered the final week....(thank god)..without much of fanfare mainly because of drab/lack lustre/pathetic display of behavior and conduct by all the inmates.

None of them deserves to be a winner. All are either classic failures in their respective careers /profession or have had a troublesome life (why couldn’t Big Boss muster clean, good and responsible character out of real life). They have failed to impact the audiences positively (good character) for the entire span of reality show. Everyone behaved in a timid manner, too scared to showcase their true reactions or feelings at anytime. Now, i understand MONEY POWER, hhm it can control display of true comradeship( which was obviously lacking ).

The show must end with a winner. Who will be the winner? Well, Khali is a wooden horse who has recently started erupting like a volcano and stands no chance. Dolly has been planted by BB to continue in the rat race till the end( she won’t win and she knows it).

That leaves either Shweta or Ashmit,,,, with the former edging past the latter.

That’s it. The end,,, of the worst ever BB screened.

Clap Clap please.

BIG BOSS SEASON 4: HOUSE OF FOOLS

After watching Big Boss 4 (BB) for so many days, I can’t refrain from commenting on stupidities, immature behavior, gimmicks and utter disregard to human feelings being displayed by housemates. Thank god, the audience never demanded closure of the serial.

Am surprised at the organizers not mediating to modulate the events and developments (avoidable fights on petty issues) which are showcase only imbalanced human behavior. How can one tolerate uncouth people, loud talking, and gutless men who have no courage to speak up to what is right.

The worst ever reality show I must say.( Jack and Jill went down the hill... and never came down...)
